Over the course of one year, M&C Consulting supported our partner, Earthlore Communications, in the creation and development of Open Water Wisdom (OWW), a national community water safety campaign led by Royal Lifesaving Canada, The Canadian Red Cross and the Public Health Agency of Canada to promote safety and prevent drownings in rural and remote communities.
Over the course of the project, we led an environmental survey of key stakeholders in communities across Canada. Based on the detailed results, a communications plan and tactical roll-out strategy to inform the way ahead.
This included the creation of several public service announcements and a full social media and public relations campaign. Ultimately, the campaign reached 250 communities, distributing 50,000 lifejackets, across rural and remote Canada, in particular in Canada’s far north and Canada’s Indigenous communities — it is now being recognized internationally as a model for engaging communities in Circumpolar nations.
